Frequently Asked Questions
What mobility aids are covered by the NDIS?
What mobility aids are covered by the NDIS?
A wide range:walkers, rollators, wheelchairs, mobility scooters, shower chairs, transfer aids, and many daily living tools can be funded through the NDIS, depending on your plan and goals. The specific items need to align with your support needs, and some higher-cost items (like power wheelchairs or scooters) may require an assessment from an occupational therapist. We offer NDIS instant checkout for eligible products, which takes a lot of the admin out of the process. If you're not sure what's covered under your plan, your support coordinator is your best first call.
What's the difference between a walker and a rollator?
What's the difference between a walker and a rollator?
A walker (or pick-up frame) is a basic four-legged frame you lift and place with each step. It'svery stable but slower. A rollator has wheels (usually two or four) and glides as you walk, soit'sbetter for people who need support but can move at a reasonable pace. Many rollators also have a built-in seat, which is handy for resting. If you're unsure which suits you or a loved one, an occupational therapist can assess your needs or give us a callat 1300 604 499 and we can talk through the options.
Do I need a prescription or referral to buy mobility aids?
Do I need a prescription or referral to buy mobility aids?
For most items, no. You can buy directly from us without a prescription. That includes walkers, rollators, shower chairs, grab rails, daily living aids, and many other products. Some items — like pressure care mattresses or hospital-grade beds — may be recommended by a healthcare professional, but you don't need a script to purchase. If you're buying through the NDIS or a Home Care Package, you may need a quote or assessment first. We can help with that process.
How do I know which shower chair or bathroom aid is right for me?
How do I know which shower chair or bathroom aid is right for me?
It depends on how much support you need and the layout of your bathroom. A basic shower stool is fine if you mainly need somewhere to sit and can transfer easily. A shower chair with armrests and a backrest gives more stability. For people who can't stand at all, a shower commode that rolls or slides over the toilet and into the shower recess may be the best option. If your bathroom is narrow or unusual in layout, an occupational therapist can assess your space and make specific recommendations. We've also got a range of grab rails and non-slip mats that work alongside any seating solution.
What should I look for in a mobility scooter?
What should I look for in a mobility scooter?
The main things to think about are: how far you want to travel on a single charge (the range), whether you need it to fit in a car boot (portability), the terrain you'll be riding on (flat footpaths vs kerbs and uneven ground), and your weight requirements. Most scooters have a weight limit of around 115–120kg, but bariatric models are available. Ifyou'remainly usingit locally for short trips, a lightweight 3- or 4-wheel scooter is usually a great fit. For longer outings or rougher terrain, a mid-size or heavy-duty model gives you more range and stability. Come into our Epping showroom if you'd like to try a few in person.
